RALLY SUNDAY WORKSHOP …

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Following Rally Sunday Lunch - September 12!With Professional Storyteller Don Falkos …EXPLORING THE BIBLE by TELLING ITS STORIESIn the first hour together, we will explore a short Bible story through strictly oral methods. Professional storyteller Don Falkos will tell the story. Then, through fun, interactive exercises you will become familiar with the story in a way you have never experienced before. By the end of the hour, you will be able to tell the story in your own words. In the remainder of our time together, we will learn and tell another short Bible story, this time starting from the Biblical text. You will explore and analyze the text in order to learn its content without having to memorize anything. The end result will be your ability to tell the story in your own words with confidence that your story honors the original text and accurately reflects its contents. You will be surprised how much better you understand this Bible simply by learning and telling its stories. The methods used in this practical, hands-on-workshop are transferable to any story you choose to learn to tell and to any ministry setting in which you wish to pass a Bible story on to others.

No prior storytelling experience is needed! More information will be in bulletins & September newsletter!

DAY CAMP is back at Norway Grove! Day Camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 28-July 31, from 8:45-3:00 each day. This is for children going into first grade up to fifth grade. The cost this year is $30 for the 4 days of camp. We have room for 45 children. Sugar Creek Bible Camp counselors bring Sugar Creek Camp to Norway Grove - for a week of Bible stories, music, arts & crafts, games and much more! Forms are available at church, or contact Veronica Eicher.

EXPLORER CAMP will be held on Tuesday, July 27, this year. Children going into 1st grade up to 5th grade will go to Sugar Creek Bible Camp for a day to find out what Bible camp is all about. There will be hiking, swimming, arts & crafts, games, Bible study, and food at Sugar Creek. The cost will be $15 for the day. We will leave church at 7:00 a.m. and be back about 5:15 pm. Parents and/or grandparents can come and enjoy the camp free for a day. Forms are available at church or contact Veronica Eicher.

OTHER CAMP NEWS: Our church is a member of Sugar Creek Bible Camp. Jake Sorenson will be here on Sunday, April 11, at both services to talk about camp. Sugar Creek Bible Camp has openings beginning June 13 for weekly camps for 3rd graders to 12th grade. Retreats for everyone are available throughout the year. Family events are available in August. Check out camp forms at church!

This year we are asking for your help to support Sugar Creek. We are asking each member of our church to donate $2.00 per person to help with the outdoor ministry of Sugar Creek. So if you have a family of 4, that would come to $8. Envelopes will be available for this ministry in the narthex starting in April. We also will have a poster entitled ‘Steer Project’ in our narthex. Each square will be $15.00 to help support the weekly camps available at Sugar Creek. The ‘Steer Project’ helps keep camp fees down for each child that comes to Sugar Creek. If you have any questions about Sugar Creek, please contact Veronica Eicher.

IDEAS TO HELP SUGAR CREEK BIBLE CAMP

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

CAMP REGISTRATION: Now is the time to get people registered for summer camp. In 2009, 1200 kids were served at camp. There is now room for 1625! Please encourage youth to get registered. Consider offering them financial assistance. VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR Sugar Creek could not function without its many volunteers. We need to keep track of these people so  we can thank than, include them and make them feel they are a part of our team!GROUNDSKEEPER In the summer, there is a lot of grass to mow at camp, and this work really stretches our staff. Help is needed to mow & care for the founds from May-September. (One or two days a week, maybe)EQUESTIAN VOLUNTEER To work with the 25 horses and check out tack. This could be one day a week or more. You would be keeping track of horse care and records.BAKER/COOK Do you like to bake goodies that make people feel really good? Make goodies for the campers? It is great to help make them smile!

THERE ARE MANY OTHER IDEAS … SEE KIOSK at CHURCH for more INFO!!

YOUTH ROCK! ROCKED!!!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Norway Grove’s first-ever Youth Rock! event was held on Saturday, September 20th, and it was amazing!  We had 70 YOUTH, ages 5 to 17, come to experience a positive message which was presented through music led by the Norway Grove Praise Band, group building activities led by Jenna Ziemer, karate instruction from Tony Armstrong, and inspirational speaking from Fran Hewuse.  About half of the kids opted to stay for an overnight lock-in, which included gathering around a campfire for songs and a skit, coming in for quiet song time in the sanctuary, participating in Guitar Hero tournaments, watching the movie “Evan Almighty”, enjoying a delicious breakfast, and attending the 8:00 church service on Sunday morning.  It was an inspiring evening for everyone involved, and we really felt a strong connection to the youth of our congregation and community.   We hope this will be the first of many Youth Rock! events to come!  We have so many people to thank for the success of the evening!  Big thank you’s go out to Pete and Nichole Bachman for grilling burgers and hot dogs and serving the evening meal, to Steve Eicher for helping set-up the sanctuary and running the sound system and screen, to Veronica Eicher for helping set-up, getting kids registered and for staying overnight, to Kris Smith for coming in at 6:00 Sunday morning to help make breakfast, to Beth and Randy Krey for helping clean-up after the breakfast, to Kris Urban for making the nametags and keeping the lemonade jug filled all night, to Karen Kreis and Diane Hewuse for helping set-up and providing an extra hand throughout the night, to Dave Midthun, Jim Buchheim, and Tom Buchheim for helping with the candle lighting prayers, to Carol Janisch for participating with the group building activities and keeping the kids energized, to Teresa Midthun for staying overnight and helping pop the popcorn for the movie, to Kathy Williams for helping with basement clean-up, to the band members for all of their hard work, enthusiasm and ideas about how to make the big night a success, to Jenna, Fran, Joe, and Tony for sharing their talents and inspiring the youth, to Laura McGoveran for her help with all of the mailings and publicity, and to all of the parents who shared a few extra minutes with us helping organize kids, cleaning up rooms or sending along food and drinks to share. Your volunteerism was awesome and you helped make this a memorable night for so many kids!  Thank you!!

Jill Buchheim, Tom Hewuse, Tom Kreis, Troy Janisch, and Pastor Kathy
